Great weather calls for great sun protection with Alteya Orgaincs
I'm loving the great weather we've been having so far this week....has summer finally arrived!? With temperatures up to 30 degrees in Scotland and soaring up to 38 in parts of England by Thursday, sun protection is a MUST if you are planning to leave your house even if all you do is sit in your garden. Really you should be using an SPF product daily regardless of the weather...yes even if its raining!
As an outdoor worker (postwoman) a good SPF is top of my list all year round but especially at this time of year! Alteya Organics Whole Body Sunscreen* (£13.40 for 90ml) is enriched with emollient botanical butters and oils to hydrate the skin and protect against damaging UVA and UVB sun rays which cause sunburn and premature aging.
So what is SPF and why do we need it?
SPF or sun protection factor measures the level of protection a product will give you and how much longer it will take your skin to burn when wearing sunscreen vs not wearing sunscreen. Alteya's Whole Body Sunscreen has an SPF of 30, which blocks nearly 97% of UVB radiation. SPF 15 blocks 93% where as SPF 50 blocks 98%.
There are two types of ultraviolet rays emitted from the sun. UVA rays from the sun penetrate deep into the skin causing long term effects such as premature aging and skin cancer. These effects are irreversible. The intensity of the UVA rays are the same all year round, which is why it is important to wear SPF daily. UVB rays are shorter and cause sunburn, the intensity varies from summer to winter.
A little about the product.
It is suggested that you apply 15 minutes before sun exposure and reapply at least every 2 hours or every 40 minutes if you are swimming or sweating, and immediately after towel drying after coming out of the pool.
As the name suggests this sunscreen is suitable for all over the body. The lotion is thick however so I prefer not to use it on my face as I like to use a thinner moisturiser here instead. There is a slight tint to the sunscreen but this disappears when rubbed into the skin and leaves behind a subtle shimmer on the skin without looking or feeling greasy. There is no whitecast left behind either which personally I think is fab, it's one of the better sunscreens I've used.
